About The Joshua Station

Joshua Station is a faith based community helping families make the transformation from homelessness to a healthy, stable living environment.

Program Overview
Joshua Station is a transformational housing program designed to help families move from unstable housing situations to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. Families will participate in a life-building program through phases that help individuals develop and reach their goals. We offer affordable housing in a safe environment and support that is provided by working with a Family Advocate weekly.

Program requirements:
Families must have children to be admitted into the program. Acceptance of a family into the program is contingent upon criminal background reports and clean drug tests. Those with sexual or habitual violent offenses will not be accepted into the program.

The program has 3 Phases:

I. Intake (7 – 10 days)
The focus of the Intake Phase is to assess whether a family is appropriate for our program and whether the program is going to be able to meet the needs of the family. Since our goal for families is self-sufficiency, individuals must be employable and willing to work on the issues and challenges that have been obstacles to permanent housing and interdependent living. We will make a final determination of acceptance into our housing program based on the following:
Attendance at orientation
Application
Interview with a Family Advocate
Criminal background check
Drug test

II. Assessment Phase (90 days)
The focus of the Assessment Phase is to begin working on any employment issues and assessing the ability of the family to live within the guidelines of Joshua Station. Each family will have at least one family member who is working part-time and/or working toward full-time employment. Vocational support programs will be offered through partnerships with other organizations that will help residents evaluate the training needed to enhance the current employment situation and/or secure and maintain a job.
Required program activities during this phase include:
• Active participation in a search for employment
• Attendance at Community Meals – 3 Thursday evenings a month
• Attendance at Community Enrichment/Town Hall meeting after Community meals on Thursday evenings
• Weekly Family Advocacy Meetings
• Completing two (2) hours of community service each month
• Following the rules and regulations of Joshua Station
• Adhering to the curfew times (Sunday through Thursday 10:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 11:00 pm)
• No illegal drugs or alcohol use
• Rent paid when due
• Four counseling sessions with a professional therapist who has an office at Joshua Station is required of all our residents and are paid for by Joshua Station. If the resident desires additional counseling sessions, Joshua Station will continue to cover the cost. After eight sessions, the therapist and the family’s advocate meet to determine if additional sessions would be beneficial for the family.

Residents are encouraged and expected to work toward becoming eligible for the Extended Stay program and can not remain in the Assessment Phase at Joshua Station for an indefinite period of time – the goal is 90 days but more time may be allowed for individual situations.

A $100 deposit plus the first week’s rent is required to move in. If the room is left clean and all of the original furniture is in good condition, the deposit will be refunded.

The base rent for the Assessment Phase is as follows:
1 room = $50.00 per week
2 rooms = $75.00 per week

III. Extended Stay Program (one year)
At the beginning of the Extended Stay Program the family will develop an individual and family goal plan. This Family Life Plan is based on challenges and any obstacles that have been identified during the Assessment Phase. The rest of the time in the Extended Stay Program is for working toward those goals.

Individuals will work on goals in the following program areas:
• Family Advocacy:
1. Meet weekly with a Family Advocate to discuss Family Life Plan goals and the actions being taken to work on achieving these goals.
2. Attend support groups and counseling as determined in meetings with your Family Advocate.
3. Continue participation in weekly community meals and Community Enrichment meetings.

• Independent Living & Life Skills
Joshua Station offers programs to residents for the purpose of helping build a network of support and encouragement. Participation in our Community Enrichment program is required and includes topics that cover:
Parenting
Finance & budgeting
Restoration & decision-making
Relationship/communication

In addition to our Community Enrichment, we offer other opportunities for personal and family growth. These include support groups, women’s night out, men’s breakfasts, Bible studies, community parties, and a youth program for the children in the community. Participation in these activities is voluntary and depends on the family’s specific circumstances and needs.

• Housing
The foundation of the program is based on the goal of moving from Joshua Station into stable housing. Families will receive help to obtain safe, stable, long-term housing upon completion of the Extended Stay Program at Joshua Station.

The rent in the Extended Stay Program increases by $25 a week.
The rent for the extended stay program is as follows:
1 room = $75.00 per week
2 rooms = $100.00 per week

Reward Program
An incentive/reward account is started with the amount of $100 contributed by Joshua Station as a reward for moving from the Assessment Phase into the Extended Stay Program. In addition to this, upon entering the Extended Stay Program, Joshua Station will put $25 of your weekly rent into an account to be held until successful completion and graduation from the Extended Stay Program, which is approximately 12 months. The incentive/reward account can than be used toward stable long-term housing costs, educational classes, or the establishment of a business.

Requirements for families to receive the incentive/reward account:
1. Family must successfully complete the extended stay program, which includes completion of your Family Life Plan and goals identified with Family Advocate
2. Meet all of the other requirements of the program
3. Rent must be currently paid
4. Must attend the Community Enrichment program meetings

A video surveillance system has been installed throughout the Joshua Station community to ensure safety among all the residents.

Facilities
Joshua Station has the capacity to serve 26 families at any one time. There are 19 two-room suites and 7 singles. Each room is “spruced” by a volunteer group who paint, decorate, place new bedding, towels and personal items to help a new family get started at Joshua Station. View some examples:
