Thank you so much for your interest in our Joshua Station community dinner! Below we’ve outlined the basics of the community dinner so that you can get an idea of what is expected when you come.
The community dinner begins promptly at 6:00pm. Usually we are finished eating by 6:45pm and then our residents attend a much-needed training class. During this time we ask 8-10 adults from your group to provide baby-sitting and another two to cleanup. Your evening of service should be finished by 8:30pm.
Here are some other important things you need to know:
- We ask that your group attend a one-hour training session prior to the evening you come to provide the meal and babysitting.
- Groups of 10-15 volunteers work the best. It is essential that there are at least 8-10 adults available for babysitting after the meal from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.
- Plan to arrive at Joshua Station at 5:30pm with prepared food and eating utensils (see list of things to bring below), so there is plenty of time to get things set up. We have two community kitchens, each with an oven and microwave to heat food or to keep it warm.
- If you would like, we can provide you with menu ideas.
- Things you’ll need to bring:
- Prepared food—enough for 65 people (plus the number of volunteers in your group)
- Paper/plastic goods—enough for 85 (to include small children not counted in the number above): paper plates/bowls, napkins, forks/spoons/knives, paper cups
- Serving utensils (spatulas, large spoons, etc.)
- Ziploc bags for leftovers
